AI and SEO in 2026: How I Use AI Without Losing the Human Bit

Hi, I'm Niloo. I work in marketing, and I use AI every day to plan, research, and write content. But the way AI and SEO work together has changed a lot in the last couple of years, so I wanted to update this post with what actually matters now.
Search doesn't look like it used to
People don't just Google things anymore. They ask ChatGPT, they read Google's AI Overviews, and often they never click through to a website at all. That means the job isn't only "rank on page one". It's "be the source that AI tools trust and mention".
What that means in practice
For me, it comes down to a few things:
Write for a real question, not a keyword. AI search pulls answers from content that clearly and directly answers what someone asked. Stuffing keywords in doesn't help anymore. Clear structure and plain language do.
Show real experience. Google and AI tools both favour content that comes from someone who has actually done the thing. First-hand examples, real numbers, honest opinions. Generic AI-generated fluff gets ignored, and there's a lot of it out there now.
Use AI for the heavy lifting, not the voice. I use AI for keyword and topic research, outlines, drafts, and checking structure. But the final piece always goes through me. The tone, the examples, the judgement about what to cut, that's the human part, and it's what makes content worth reading.
Keep the basics tidy. Fast pages, clear titles, good meta descriptions, mobile friendly. None of that has gone away. It's just the entry ticket now, not the strategy.
The honest bit
AI hasn't replaced content people. It's raised the bar. Anyone can generate words now, so the value sits in knowing your audience, having a point of view, and using the tools well. That's the work I enjoy most.
If you'd like to chat about content, marketing, or how to use AI without your writing sounding like a robot, get in touch. I'm always happy to talk.
